School inspection

The Department of Education (Northern Ireland) carried out a school inspection in January 1999 and found that the "excellent relationships and welcoming atmosphere in this school are notable features ... the staff place high priority on creating a secure, settled atmosphere for the children and it is to the credit of the teachers that there is no evidence within the school of the tensions in the local community". The report further found that "the children’s behaviour is of a high standard ... sensitive integration of the children with special educational needs with their peers contributes well to their social and intellectual development". The school also successfully promotes Education for Mutual Understanding (EMU): "the children are taught to share, to be tolerant of the views of others ... direct contacts with several other schools, along with educational trips and visits, provide the children with worthwhile experiences of people from different backgrounds and traditions".
